Boats of reasonable draft can navigate the creek for ~2 hours either side of high tide. On summer weekends the Malster's Arms quayside can become quite crowded, with boats moored two or three deep.
During the summer months the Maltsters Arms arranges, or is the focus for, many outdoor events.
The Canoe Regatta is generally held in late June. Besides the racing, there is usually a beer festival. Most weeks there there is live music in some form. For a update see the Maltster's Arms web site.
Tuckenhay is in an area of 'outstanding natural beauty', surrounded by paths and bridal ways. There are many very pleasant walks in the surrounding coutryside.
The creek is best seen from a small boat.

Canoe Adventures set off from just beside the Maltster's Arms car park. Schedules vary according to the tide.
The nearest beach is Blackpool Sands, 8 miles or ~20 minutes away by car. The sand isn't as good as its northern namesake, but it's much prettier.
For better sand, but a longer journey there is (going East to West) East Portlemouth (opposite Salcombe), then Hope Cove, Thurlestone and Bigbury.
Across the Dart in Torbay, there are the more popular, but generally more crowded beaches of Brixham, Paignton & Torquay
Besides the Maltsters Arms next door, the Watermans Arms is only a short stroll away at Bow Bridge.
Slightly further away, but still walkable, is the Hunters Lodge
in Cornworthy and the Durant Arms in Ashprington.
Besides Gulls, Mallards and a long-standing breeding pair of Swans and of Egyptian Geese, the
following have been seen from Mallard Cottage:
Heron, Egret, Redshank, Kingfisher, Shag, Cormorant, Buzzard, Oystercatcher,
Shelduck, Canada Goose, Moorhen.
Riverlink offer pleasure boat cruises and trips up and down the River Dart, from Dartmouth to Totnes in Devon. Their Round Robin combines a river cruise with a trip on the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway.
Much of the 1000 year heritage of this lovely old town remains intact and in use. It's another good place to eat and drink.
Morrisons is a convenient place to buy the week's provisions. (It has a large car park).
Dartmouth is well worth visiting at any time — for its history, its shops, the pubs, the river traffic and the visiting large ships, but it is particulary alive at Regatta Week.
